Wimbledon Embraces Video Review Technology This Season.

Wimbledon court with video review system

The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Video review technology will be launched at Wimbledon this year.

Players are granted the option to contest certain calls made by the official, echoing the system currently in place at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Notably, there is no limit on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.

Growing Trend

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at all of its tournaments.

Further Updates

A further change at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves situations where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
